Authorities in Potiskum Local Government Area have issued a decisive third and final warning against illegal roadside activities, marking the end of prolonged consultations and the start of strict enforcement under the urban transformation agenda of Hon. Salisu Muktari.
The decision follows weeks of sustained engagements, public sensitization, and consultations with transport unions, market associations, and community leaders. Despite these efforts, officials report continued non-compliance, especially along major commercial routes.
During a recent enforcement tour, the LGA Committee on Illegal Structures inspected key corridors from Dogon Karfe to Kwannan Gadara and from Kwannan Gadara to ‘Yan Kaji Road—areas heavily affected by encroachment and traffic disruption.
Officials observed persistent violations, including blocked walkways by wheelbarrow operators, goods displayed on roads, and unauthorized structures. These activities, they noted, continue to obstruct traffic, threaten safety, and undermine urban planning.
The enforcement reflects Hon. Salisu Muktari’s commitment to transforming Potiskum into a modern, orderly, and economically vibrant city through strict adherence to a structured development plan.
Authorities also raised concerns over illegal parking and roadside passenger loading, particularly in market areas, describing them as major causes of congestion and transport inefficiency.
The exercise was led by the Head of Works, Abubakar Mamman, represented by the LGA Land Officer, Mohammed Garba, alongside officials from YOGIS and the zonal chairman.
The committee engaged transport unions, including NURTW and NAPEP operators, urging immediate compliance. The team was supported by the Sarkin Kasuwa, market leaders, and security personnel to ensure order.
Transport operators were directed to stop roadside parking and loading and to use designated motor parks and approved loading points.
Declaring the notice final, the committee warned that strict enforcement will now follow for defaulters.
The administration of Hon. Salisu Muktari reaffirmed its resolve to deliver a cleaner, safer, and well-structured Potiskum, urging residents to comply in the interest of sustainable development.
