I’ve been lucky enough to see quite a bit of Africa, but the place that still stops me cold when I think about it is the Sossusvlei sand dunes in Namibia. There’s nothing else like it on earth. The dunes are these enormous, burnt-orange shapes that shift in the light from deep red to soft peach as the sun moves. I got up before dawn to climb Dune 45, and watching the shadows crawl across the valley below while the sky turned pink and gold was one of those moments where you forget to breathe....

I hear you. A year in is exactly when the chaos of just writing starts to catch up with you. I went through the same thing. For me, the biggest breakthrough was separating my writing into three distinct phases: dumping, shaping, and polishing. When I sit down to write, I don't try to organize anything at first. I just dump all my thoughts onto the page in whatever order they come. No structure, no grammar, just raw material. That takes the pressure off because I know I'm just gathering ingredie...
