Good Friday

I Watched Him Die… and Live
The sky went dark before its time,
like heaven was holding back tears
it couldn’t let fall.
The wind whispered what words could not.
He was not on a throne.
He was on wood,
rough, splintered, unforgiving wood.
I saw the thorns press into His brow,
and I flinched,
because every sharp point
felt like a mirror of my own sins.
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to run.
I wanted Him to be safe.
But He stayed.
He stayed,
not for the cheers,
not for the glory,
but for the ones who couldn’t stay.
For me.
For you.
And when He finally said,
“It is finished,”
It wasn’t a cry of defeat,
but a declaration:
Love had won.
Death did not win.
Hope did not die.
I watched Him give everything.
It was dark.
It hurt.
It felt impossible.
But it was Good Friday.
Because Good Friday was the day
I saw love
stay
when it could have walked away.
And I will never be the same.
Because He stayed.
