“This Thing Called Life" series — Episode 21
💊💊💊
Another person wakes up early, posts motivational quotes, shares deep captions, responds “noted” in every group chat, but their actual life is standing still. Nothing is changing.
Then you see someone in a relationship, always available, always answering calls, always present, but not actually building anything meaningful. Just showing up, not showing depth.
It is possible to be present and still be absent. That one is even more dangerous than not showing up at all.
I remembered a particular day in school. A lecturer gave an assignment. Very simple. “Write on this topic, but make sure you think.” Those were his exact words.
People wrote plenty pages with clean handwriting. Some even paid me to help them draw diagrams that were not necessary.
When the results came out, the highest score was not from the longest script. It was from a simple, almost short write up.
One of the students complained openly. “But I wrote more than him.”
The lecturer smiled. “Yes. You wrote more. But you did not think more.”
Gbam!
That is how many of us are living. Doing more. Thinking less. Moving fast. Missing direction. We follow rules, we tick boxes. We show up, we respond and we comply.
But somewhere inside all that obedience, purpose is quietly ignored. There is a difference between instruction and direction. Instruction tells you what to do. Direction tells you where you are going.
