The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, is redefining public healthcare delivery through bold, people-centered interventions that are transforming maternal and child health outcomes across the state.
In a landmark achievement, the administration has upgraded and fully equipped 138 primary healthcare centers, ensuring that quality medical services are accessible at the grassroots. This effort forms part of a broader vision to strengthen the healthcare system from the foundation upward, with particular attention to the safety of mothers and newborns.
Complementing this milestone is the introduction of free ‘Mama Kits,' a strategic initiative aimed at supporting pregnant women during childbirth. These kits, which contain essential delivery and postnatal items, are being distributed directly to healthcare facilities across the state to ensure that no expectant mother is left without basic care requirements.
This intervention directly addresses one of the most pressing challenges faced by many women: the inability to afford items needed during delivery. In many communities, such limitations have discouraged expectant mothers from visiting health facilities, exposing them to unnecessary risks at home.
By removing this burden, Gov. Buni's administration has not only improved access to skilled healthcare but has also restored dignity and confidence among women. The initiative is already contributing to increased patronage of health centers and safer childbirth experiences across Yobe State.
Significantly, this program places Gov. Buni as the only governor in Northern Nigeria currently implementing a comprehensive and structured ‘Mama Kits’ policy alongside widespread primary healthcare upgrades, setting a new standard for maternal care in the region.
Beyond infrastructure and supplies, the initiative also tackles social barriers, including stigma and challenges surrounding childbirth preparation, ensuring that every woman regardless of background can access care without fear or discrimination.
Through these impactful reforms, the Buni administration continues to demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting lives, promoting inclusivity, and building a healthier future for all.
