Governor Mai Mala Buni is spearheading a strategic recovery of Yobe State’s education sector, placing it at the heart of the state’s post-insurgency rebuilding efforts and long-term development agenda.

Following years of disruption caused by insurgency, the Buni administration identified education as a critical pathway to restoring stability, rebuilding communities, and empowering the next generation. With this vision, the government embarked on a comprehensive reform programme focused on strengthening human capital and reviving confidence in public schools.

A central pillar of this effort is the large-scale training and retraining of teachers. Over 6,000 educators across the state have benefited from targeted capacity-building programmes designed to equip them with modern teaching methods, enhanced subject knowledge, and effective classroom management skills suited for a post-conflict environment.

To further reinforce the system, the administration has recruited more than 4,000 teaching and non-teaching staff into primary and secondary schools. This intervention has helped bridge critical manpower gaps created by displacement, retirements, and the wider impact of insurgency on the education workforce.

The impact of these reforms is already being felt across Yobe State. Schools are regaining structure and stability, teaching quality is improving, and student participation is on the rise—marking a steady return to effective learning.

Stakeholders say the administration’s approach reflects a deeper recovery strategy, one that sees education not only as a social service but as a tool for healing communities, reducing vulnerability, and fostering sustainable peace.

By investing in teachers and rebuilding institutional capacity, the Buni administration is restoring more than classrooms—it is rebuilding hope and creating pathways for a more secure and prosperous future.

As Yobe State continues to recover and grow, the education sector stands out as a cornerstone of progress, demonstrating how purposeful leadership can turn adversity into lasting opportunity.
