… He didn't reach for a scripture. He just sat there with the weight of what he now understood, which was that he had spent weeks building something beautiful from the outside, and he had been so busy admiring the outside that he had not noticed there was nothing holding it up. The wind had not blown yet. But he was the last person in the room to know it was coming.
He looked at the Phone of Destiny one final time. The screen lit up for a moment before it faded.

He closed his eyes. Outside, Ondo town was doing what it always did at that hour. “Better moimoi is available" Night sellers calling to late night customers. The dull rhythm of a drum somewhere in the distance. Leaves shifting in the breeze that comes after ten o'clock when the heat finally decides to let people breathe.
All of it familiar, all of it continuing exactly as it had before tonight. But for Christian, none of it was reaching him. He had gone somewhere inward, and the world outside his closed eyelids was simply sound without meaning. He was, in every sense the Dashboard would recognize, offline.
