Potiskum LGA has taken a decisive step forward in infrastructure development following the official handover of sites for two major road and bridge projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), an intervention largely driven by the proactive leadership and sustained engagement of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Salisu Muktari.
The projects, which cut across Kara, Masaka, Jigawa, Mazaga, Bare-Bari Bauya Lailai Ward, Bolewa ‘A’ Ward, and the Tandari axis, are designed to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and ease long-standing transportation challenges within the area; they are also in line with ongoing efforts to support post-insurgency recovery and inclusive development in Yobe State.
Project details reveal that the first intervention involves the construction of a two-span 40-meter bridge with a 2.6-kilometer approach road linking the Kara–Masaka–Mazaga communities; the project has been awarded to Dan Nene Construction, Transportation and Services Limited.
The second intervention is the construction of a three-span 40-meter bridge with a 0.5-kilometer access road along the Tandari corridor, to be executed by Eighteen Engineering Company (EEC) International Limited.
Speaking during the site handover ceremony in Potiskum, the NEDC Yobe State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, explained that the projects form part of the Commission’s post-insurgency recovery program under the leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Goni Alkali. He noted that the interventions are intended to complement the infrastructure development agenda of Gov. Mai Mala Buni.
Also speaking, the Yobe State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Duddaye, represented by the Potiskum Area Engineer, praised the NEDC for its community-focused interventions, stressing that the projects will open up difficult-to-access areas and significantly improve mobility within Potiskum.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Adamu Hamza Ngojin, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Salisu Muktari, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for responding to the development needs of Potiskum and described the projects as critical to easing traffic congestion, improving access to educational institutions, and boosting agricultural and commercial activities.
Community leaders and residents commended Hon. Salisu Muktari for attracting the projects and reaffirmed their support for Gov. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, noting that the interventions align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for rebuilding critical infrastructure across the Northeast.
