The Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari has initiated the distribution of diesel and petrol to boreholes across the council in a strategic effort to address the worsening water shortage caused by ongoing power outages.
The intervention targets boreholes that have been unable to operate due to electricity constraints, particularly those providing essential services to communities across the area.
As part of the directive, operators of commercial boreholes have been urged to reduce and regulate the price of water to ensure that residents are not subjected to undue hardship. Similarly, all government-owned, community, and NGO-supported boreholes benefiting from the fuel support have been mandated to operate efficiently and at full capacity.
Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Salisu Muktari expressed appreciation to the good people of Potiskum for their consistent support of both the state and local government administrations, describing it as a key driver of ongoing development efforts.
“I commend the good people of Potiskum for their continued support of our government at all levels. This cooperation has been instrumental to the progress we are making,” he said.
“This intervention covers government-owned boreholes, selected private operators, and community facilities to ensure steady water supply. I urge all stakeholders to make the most of this support by serving the public effectively and maintaining fair pricing.”
He further emphasized the need for accountability among beneficiaries, stressing that the gesture must translate into improved access to clean and affordable water for residents.
The move is widely regarded as a proactive and people-focused response aimed at mitigating the impact of water scarcity and improving the living conditions of communities across Potiskum LGA.
