Raise your hands if you still think wearing black on black means mourning.
Raise your hands if you still associate black with evil or darkness.
Raise your hands if you still don’t think black is beautiful.
Well, I’m here to prove you wrong. BLACK is beautiful. Whether it’s the color itself, the clothes, or even the complexion, yes, you can be dark-skinned and still rock black and shine in any room you walk into.
I grew up with those limiting beliefs, shaped by African traditions and movies, but now I see there’s nothing wrong with black. As I said in my previous post, BEYOND PINK (check it out if you haven’t), I first saw the beauty in black when it became our choir’s Sunday uniform. At first, it felt strange because of my mindset, but over time, it started to feel beautiful, real, and empowering.
I may not convince everyone, but for me, I’ll always see the beauty in black, not darkness or evil, but elegance and confidence. So walk with me down my personal memory lane of black.
