THE NIGERIAN SPIRIT

*THE NIGERIAN SPIRIT*

It never yields,
Never bows,
Never breaks,
Never dies.

Though the economy bites like iron,
Though the streets groan with silent hunger,
Though mountains rise, and unyielding—
Still, it stands… and overcomes.

It thrives where storms refuse to cease,
Breathes beneath suffocating shadows,
Rises through walls of resistance,
Silencing the thunder of its foes.

Like a rose guarded by ruthless thorns,
Desired, yet doubted by distant eyes,
Admired, yet measured with suspicion—
A beauty critics fail to understand.

Radiant among nations,
Marked by grace and fire,
Endowed with uncommon brilliance,
Rich in wisdom, deep as time.

“Are you Nigerian?” they ask—
Voices laced with wonder,
Drawn by a restless ingenuity,
Captivated by a different light.

We are no rebels without conscience,
No strangers to order or truth—
But bearers of life’s sacred worth,
Of justice, and the dignity of man.

Yes, a few have lost the path,
Wanderers from the ancient flame—
But they are not the soul we carry,
Nor the clay from which we rise.

Ours is a spirit warm and fearless,
Disciplined, graceful, unafraid—
A spirit woven with love and endurance,
Tempered in hope, refined by fire.

This is our strength, our story, our pride—
Unbroken, unyielding, ever rising:
The Nigerian Spirit.

This hit me right in the chest. I'm not even Nigerian but I've lived there for 3 years and man... the resilience is something else. My neighbor lost everything in that flood last year and still showed up to help me fix my roof the next day. That's the spirit you're talking about. Beautifully written btw.
