Chapter One — When Heaven Sent a Friend Request
💊💊💊
I remember that night like it was yesterday. I had just finished a long day of writing. My laptop screen still had that faint glow, and the fan in my room was humming like a tired choir member during night vigil. My eyes were heavy, and I told myself, “Segun, just close your eyes for ten minutes.” You know how we say ten minutes, but angels in charge of sleep always extend it to five hours? That was how I drifted.

And in my sleep, I met him.
A young man named Christian.

He wasn’t extraordinary at first glance. In fact, he looked like any Nigerian youth you’d see on a hot afternoon in Ondo City,T-shirt slightly rough, jeans hanging loosely, one earphone plugged in, scrolling on his phone like it contained the secret to life. His face carried that mixture of worry and comedy only Nigerians know how to balance: like he had bills to pay, but he had also just seen a funny skit online.

Christian’s phone wasn’t an iPhone or Samsung. It was something strange, almost glowing. Let me call it the Phone of Destiny. Unlike normal phones, this one didn’t need charging. Notifications came whether he had data or not. The apps on it were unusual: FaithBook, Praystagram, KingdomTok, and HeavenChat.

As he scrolled lazily, one notification caught his eye.
A pending Friend Request.

Not from a random stranger. Not from one of those suspicious “sugar mummies in Canada.” No. This one boldly carried the name: Heaven Official.

At first, Christian laughed. “Heaven? Abeg. Who created parody account again bayi? Maybe one pastor set this thing up to catch souls.” He swiped it away like spam.

But the request didn’t vanish. It popped up again, bold and stubborn.
Heaven Official wants to be your Friend.

Christian rolled his eyes. “See scam. If na real Heaven, won’t they DM me instead of public request?”

So he ignored it. Closed the app. Opened another one. Watched some short videos. Laughed at memes. The kind of laugh that ends in small tears, the one neighbors hear and say, “Hope this boy never run mad?”

Yet, the request kept returning.

And here’s where the mystery deepened: Christian didn’t know that once you see the request, you can’t unsee it… and the more you ignore it, the louder it gets.

To be continued…
