Silence is Not Peace

I sit in a room that pretends to be calm,
curtains drawn like secrets afraid of the sun.
The chair holds my body,
but my mind stands at attention
somewhere between hope and headlines.

My eyes fix on a screen,
but Nigeria flickers behind it
not buffering,
just suffering.

The fan hums a gentle lie,
as if peace can be manufactured
like steady electricity
that never stays.

Outside, the air wears tension like perfume,
every street a question mark,
every siren a sentence
that never ends well.

I learn…
not from books alone,
but from the curriculum of chaos,
Strike 101,
Inflation Studies,
and Advanced Survival.

Even the walls listen carefully,
they have heard too much
promises that expired
before they were spoken.

This quiet…
is loud.

Because in a nation where unrest is routine,
stillness is suspicious,
and peace
just a visitor
that never stays long enough
to be called home.
