ROTLIGHT…

Oyewale Toluwanimi was the brightest soul I had ever walked beside.
Our steps once matched, our days intertwined—
until, without warning, the thread between us began to loosen.
One afternoon, I understood why:
she was leaving town.
I wept.
My mother pulled me close,
her arms a quiet shelter,
and told me to be well.
Her words carried something I could not yet name.
Grief lingered in the corners of my days.
But time kept reshaping me.
My mother urged me to hold on to joy,
and only later did I grasp her meaning—
what I truly needed was to set aside the weight I had been carrying.
I needed room to breathe.
I needed the quiet.
In trying to piece together the reason for her leaving,
I thought of her parents—both government workers—
forced to find a safer ground.
A place to rest without fear.
A place where the walls did not listen.
Perhaps someone was watching them.
I did not wish to decide too quickly,
yet the thought stayed.
It grew into a single truth:
those in power should guard, not endanger.
No more answers were needed.
I remained on my bed,
still and steady,
and began to act in the only way I knew.
The story continues..✍️
