I am the prayer
my mother whispered into the silent night.
The hope
she held close to her heart
when the weight of the world felt like too much.
I am the prayer
she breathed softly
when the house had fallen asleep,
when the lights were off,
and the only sound
was hope breathing slowly in the dark.
I am the prayer
she spoke in the days life was not easy,
when tomorrow felt uncertain,
when questions filled her mind
and answers were nowhere to be found.
I am the answer
to the tears she wiped away quickly
so no one would see
how exhausted she truly was.
And one day
I came to understand:
sometimes
a person’s life
is the answer
to a prayer
their mother once whispered
into the night.
And through our voices,
her prayers
are still speaking.
