TOOTHLESS LIONS, BLEEDING ALTARS
We are lions...
But our roar has been buried under silence.
Our teeth gospel and grace
Blunted by patience
And prayer turned protest.
They circle us
Like hyenas in the night,
Snarling policies,
Preaching from podiums,
Wielding power in cloaks of piety,
While we fast...
While we cry…
While we wait.
O Nigeria, land of many altars
Yet your Christians burn like incense
On the pyres of indifference.
Your pastors preach peace to ashes,
While your enemies preach conquest with arms.
We do not fight.
We do not rise.
We do not roar.
We build schools,
They burn them.
We host crusades,
They ambush villages.
And still,
We kneel.
But tell me
How long shall a lamb pray
Before it is devoured?
O Church,
Shall we be silent as our children are dragged from classrooms,
Our elders from their farms,
Our women from their beds
All in the name of cattle and conquest?
Where are the watchers?
Where are the Davids?
Where are the sons of thunder
Who cry, “Enough!”?
We are surrounded
As the ocean surrounds the island.
Yet if the island erupts,
It can flood the sea.
So roar, O lions.
Not with hate,
But with holy fire.
With wisdom, with truth, with boldness.
For the kingdom of God suffers violence
And the violent shall take it by force.
