This is where I first learned what love looks like.
Before I could speak,
before I could understand the world,
they were arms that held me,
voices that knew my name,
and people who stayed.
it is the love that fed me when I was hungry,
corrected me when I was wrong,
and stayed up worrying when I was far from home.
The love that remembers my childhood
even now that I’ve grown.
The one that keeps showing up,
again and again,
even when it's hard.
it doesn’t always say, “I love you,”
but it proved it—quietly, constantly—
in a thousand little ways.
In sacrifices I never noticed.
In prayers I never heard.
In tears they chose to hide.
it is the love that shaped me
without asking for anything in return.
The love that protected me
even when I didn’t understand it.
The love that gave me somewhere to return to
when the world turned away.
it isn’t perfect.
It has its flaws,
its silences,
its misunderstandings.
But it is deep love.
Rooted love.
Staying love.
And for many of us,
it is the reason we're still breathing.
