I was walking somewhere I won't tell you, minding my business the way I always mind my business, which is to say not very well, because I have this habit of noticing things. I was passing two guys standing by the side, deep in gist, they were leaning slightly into each other and their voices are low but their faces are loud.
I wasn't trying to hear them oo. But one sentence just flew out and landed on me before I could dodge it.
One of them said, with genuine disgust on his face, "Guy, he said he's still a virgin. As a guy. He's not even ashamed."
The other one laughed. That means they both agree. And they moved on with their conversation like they had just said something sensible.
I kept walking. But I kept thinking about it, it bothered me, not because it's big but because it points at something deeper that nobody is saying out loud. These were young men, they are still in school, probably still figuring out who they are, and the worst thing they could imagine for another man was that he had kept himself.
Now let me tell you what nobody (or few people) wants to talk about. A large number of the men walking around today were not trained. They were just released. Their fathers either were not there, or were there physically but absent in every way that mattered.
