THE DEVIL IN THE MIRROR
A CINEMATIC SIMU PIECE

Not every devil hides in fire.
Not every monster lives in the underworld.
Not every darkness comes from the shadows.

Sometimes the devil we search for is not seated in a volcanic throne,
deep in the bowels of the earth,
lighting a Cuban cigar with molten lava,
trident in hand,
laughing that theatrical, ancient, villainous laugh
that sounds like fee… fia… foo…
plotting whose blood to taste next.

No.

Sometimes the devil is quieter.
Closer.
Patient.

Sometimes he lives inside us,
nestled between our fears, our impulses, our regrets,
waiting for the exact moment when truth and weakness collide.

He doesn’t roar
he whispers.
He doesn’t chase
he waits.
He doesn’t strike
he suggests.

And the greatest battle you will ever fight
will not be against demons made of smoke and fire,
but the one wearing your own reflection.

For the mirror does not lie.
It reveals the part of you
you pretend not to see.
The version forged in old wounds,
shaped by forgotten choices,
strengthened by every silence you refused to break.

Most people look away.
Most blink.
Most flinch.

Only a few
a rare, dangerous few
have the courage
to stare into that mirror
and meet the beast within
head-on.

Because the truth is this:

The devil is not always the one who tempts you.
Sometimes the devil
is the one you’ve allowed yourself to become.

And facing him
is the beginning
of becoming something greater.

A Reflection from the SIMU Collection.

The poem made me think about how sometimes we're our own demons, hiding in our reflections. It's a poetic reminder of the courage needed to face ourselves.

This poem really resonates with me. It's empowering to think about facing our own demons instead of letting someone else control us. The idea that the devil can be within us is a beautiful reminder of our inner strength and growth.

This poem is a stunning take on the devil as an internal force. It's so rare to see poetry that combines cinematic elements with personal reflection. The idea of the devil being within us adds such depth—it’s like having your own mirror staring you down, which makes the battle feel so real. I think about how we all have moments where our inner demons whispers or lurks, waiting to be met. It's a powerful reminder that self-awareness is key.

The poem and movie piece are fascinating! The devil isn't just a scary image; it's about self-reflection and transformation. Like watching a movie, you're invited to look into your own mirror and see who you really are.

The poem made me realize how much of ourselves we keep hidden, even from ourselves. It's like staring into a mirror and finding pieces of ourselves we never knew existed.

This poem really gets me thinking about my own inner demons and how we all kind of create our own worst fears through reflection. It’s a bit heavy, but in a good way that makes you question your own beliefs.

The poem really resonates with me. It’s like taking a mirror walk and discovering parts of yourself you never knew existed. The devil isn’t just something to fear; it’s a reflection of our own shadows waiting to be seen.

I'm reminded of how often we look outward without seeing ourselves. The mirror metaphor here is so powerful, forcing us to confront truths that can feel terrifying but also liberating.

The poem really hits home for me. It’s all about those internal battles we’re often too shy to face. The devil isn’t just lurking outside—it’s right there staring back at us in our own reflections. Embracing that darkness can be scary, but it’s also the first step towards something greater. Definitely worth reflecting on myself and what I’m willing to confront.
