STR Virtual Co-hosting/assistance? Let’s Talk About It.

So I told someone I’m a Virtual Co-host the other day, and the look they gave me?
Like I said I manage ghosts, not guests.

“Virtual what?”

I get it though. Not everyone’s sold on the idea.
Yes, the world is digital, we’re doing therapy on WhatsApp and attending weddings on Zoom, but for some people, managing a property without being there still feels like a scam.

Especially if you’re in Nigeria.
Because somehow, the moment you say “virtual,” the brain adds “Yahoo.”

Truth is, some co-hosts just can’t wrap their heads around it. “How can you manage a property you’ve never seen?”
“Virtual Co-hosting sounds like a scam.”
And it's understandable, because traditionally, Co-hosting meant being physically present, knowing the property inside and out.
Virtual co-hosting is real. It works. And it’s here to stay.

There are companies successfully managing short-term rentals from across the world. Guest issues? Resolved. Bookings? Optimized. Calendars? Synced. All without stepping foot on the property.

But let me keep it real:

Being an STR Virtual Assistant/Co-host is not for the faint-hearted.
You’ll get rejected more times than a bad Tinder bio.
You’ll get ignored. Rejected. Ghosted.

And sometimes, you’ll think, “Is this even worth it?”
You’ll hear, “This sounds fake,” “We prefer locals,” and the classic, “Are you really in Nigeria?”

And just like that, BOOM, you've been tagged “scammer” before you've even said “Hello.”

Worse if you're Nigerian.
Before you even send a proposal, you’re already fighting the stereotype. You haven't said a word, but somehow...“scammer.”

Platforms don’t make it easier either. Besides Upwork (shoutout to Upwork), it’s tough to find STR-specific gigs.

But every now and then, you see that one post:
“Looking for a virtual co-host.”
And suddenly, hope returns. You sit up straighter, sip your garri with purpose, and whisper, “Today might be the day.”

If you’re thinking of niching into STR virtual assistance/virtual Co-hosting, here’s your heads-up:

It’s not a walk in the park.
You’ll quit. Then come back. Then quit again.
You’ll take breaks. You’ll doubt yourself.

But you’ll also grow, adapt, and keep showing up,because you have to.
You’ll need people who understands
And the consistency required here isn’t the usual kind; it’s powered by grit, community, and sometimes, just the reality of where you’re coming from.

And sometimes, your biggest motivator won’t be passion or vision.
It’ll just be Nigeria.
The economy. The struggle. The “I can’t go back to NEPA and vibes” mentality.

But even with all the barriers, I believe we’ll get there.
Step by step. Client by client. Win by win.
May we all win, even if it’s virtually.

Hey there! I came across this post and could relate to some of the struggles mentioned. Virtual co-hosting does sound challenging, especially from Nigeria. But hey, maybe we can help each other out. Let's keep growing together! ✊
