Poem Title: Flashback
I wander back,
to the places we left behind,
where laughter hung in the air,
as soft as sunlit dust,
and where voices lingered long after we’d gone.
In the quiet of dusk,
I feel the press of these old memories, like
faded threads woven into my mind, and like a song hummed low,
or rain tapping at the window,
patient, as if it knew I’d come to listen.
Time, relentless as it is,
cannot sweep away the pulse of those days,
the taste of joy, raw and unfiltered,
familiar as the lines in my own hand.
Here, in the cradle of what was,
I can still trace the stories I carry still,
in every glance, in every sigh,
a flicker of who I was,
who I am, and who I've become.
And though the present calls,
pulling me forward,
I still find comfort in the spaces between,
in the quiet that lets me breathe
those lost fragments of yesterday,
and carry them softly,
like a heartbeat, into tomorrow.
Description
This poem, "Flashback," is inspired by the deep-rooted memories of childhood friendships and playtime in Africa, where days seemed endless and filled with laughter, games, and the warmth of the sun. It speaks to the moments shared in open fields, under wide skies, where every laugh, song, and game became part of the heart's rhythm. The poem captures how these memories, like the delicate threads of woven fabric, linger in the mind reminding us of who we were and the bonds that shaped us. Each line is a tribute to the innocence, joy, and unbreakable connection to friends and the land that nurtured those first dreams.
