… Christian leaned back against the rough bark of the tree, his chest rising and falling unevenly. Relief washed through him so quickly it almost made him dizzy.
He looked again at the Spirit-Interface.
Another notification appeared quietly.
CEO: Response Received.
Because you finally stayed on the line.
A small pause. Then the final line blinked gently.
Next time the Morning Sync calls… don’t snooze it.
Christian walked back home that evening, moving slowly along the familiar dusty path. His legs felt tired, but his chest felt strangely light. Like someone had quietly removed a heavy bag he didn’t know he had been carrying.
The evening air had softened. Students drifted past in small groups, some arguing about football, others laughing too loudly about things that would probably not be funny tomorrow.
At Y-block's entrance he saw the woman at the kiosk again, the one who sold sachet water.
He stopped.
“Mama, give me one pure water,” he said.
She reached into the cooler and handed him a cold sachet. Christian paid, then added another fifty naira and placed it gently on the small wooden table.
“Mama… sorry for the way I spoke earlier.”
The woman looked up at him properly this time. The tightness on her face melted into a tired but kind smile.
To be continued… 🔥
