The Yobe State Gov't has stepped up its planned development agenda with a decision to extend comprehensive Urban Master Plans to Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, Geidam, and Buni-Yadi, reinforcing its drive for balanced and orderly urban growth across the state.
Gov. Mai Mala Buni, CON, represented by the Secretary to the State Gov't, Baba Malam Wali, mni, disclosed this while receiving a delegation of experts from UN-HABITAT, IOM, and UNHCR, led by Dr. Christian Okafor, in Damaturu.
The initiative follows progress recorded in the Damaturu Urban Plan and is aimed at providing clear frameworks for land use, infrastructure development, and efficient service delivery in the identified urban centres. Gov. Buni said the move reflects the administration’s resolve to decentralize development and reduce pressure on the state capital by spreading opportunities to major towns.
He reaffirmed that the government’s development strategy is anchored on functional infrastructure, productivity, and people-focused policies, citing ongoing investments in roads, healthcare facilities, education, and agricultural empowerment across the state.
The Governor assured development partners of the state’s readiness to sustain collaboration that delivers practical and long-term benefits to communities.
In his remarks, Dr. Christian Okafor commended the Yobe State Gov't for its commitment to planned urban development, describing the expansion of the Master Plan initiative as a strategic step toward sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth.
The decision underscores Gov. Buni’s emphasis on long-term planning and equitable development as key pillars of Yobe State’s transformation agenda.
