In a strategic and policy-driven intervention aimed at consolidating peace and accelerating agricultural transformation, Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has completed a large-scale, modern dairy farm in the Jakusko Local Government Area, reinforcing his administration’s resolve to decisively address farmer–herder conflicts across the state.

The project reflects a deliberate shift from reactive conflict management to proactive socio-economic planning, providing pastoral communities with a structured, well-serviced environment that promotes settled livestock production, productivity, and peaceful coexistence with farming communities.

The Jakusko dairy facility integrates critical infrastructure, including a primary school, milk processing factory, hospital, veterinary and animal health clinic, animal feed factory, vocational skills centers, electricity and potable water supply, 50 housing units, 50 modern irrigation systems, and access roads. This integrated model aligns social services with economic empowerment, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact.

Beyond strengthening Yobe’s agricultural value chain, the initiative is projected to expand rural employment, enhance food security, and reduce security risks by productively engaging pastoralists and youths, thereby addressing key drivers of rural instability.

Speaking on the impact of the intervention, Malam Abubakar Babawuro, a pastoralist in the area, described the project as transformative, noting that it restores dignity to herding livelihoods while securing education, healthcare, and veterinary services for their families and livestock.

The Jakusko dairy farm stands as a clear demonstration of Governor Buni’s governance philosophy—leveraging inclusive development, modern infrastructure, and economic integration as instruments for peacebuilding, security, and sustainable growth across Yobe State.
