As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to mark ten years of progressive leadership on January 27, growing attention is being drawn to the individuals whose commitment and vision secured the party’s unity, expansion, and national dominance; prominent among them is Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, widely regarded as a stabilizing force in the APC’s journey over the past decade.
Gov. Buni’s contribution to the party’s growth dates back to his tenure as National Secretary, where he played a key role in strengthening internal structures, promoting discipline, and institutionalizing democratic processes within the party. These foundations proved critical in sustaining cohesion within a broad-based political platform.
His leadership impact became most evident during his service as Acting National Chairman, a period marked by internal challenges and heightened political tension. Through consensus-building, inclusive engagement, and calm leadership, Governor Buni successfully restored unity, rebuilt trust among stakeholders, and repositioned the party for stability and growth.
This renewed internal balance created room for strategic political expansion, with notable figures from opposition parties aligning with the APC—further consolidating its dominance across the country.
A defining achievement of this era was the comprehensive nationwide membership registration exercise, which produced over 40 million registered members. This landmark accomplishment entrenched the APC as Africa’s largest political party while deepening its grassroots presence and strengthening its organizational capacity.
As the APC approaches its first decade milestone, party stakeholders and political analysts agree that the strength, resilience, and continental stature of the party are deeply connected to Gov. Buni’s unwavering commitment to unity, stability, and institutional growth; his leadership legacy continues to serve as a foundation for the APC’s present strength and future aspirations.
