Some nights the kettle whistles in my mother's tongue. I count invoices in another. The spreadsheet flickers, a pale blue sea, while my pillow holds a darker vowel. Signal Mountain is one of those places in Mauritius that rewards you differently depending on when you go. Most people hit it at sunset for the classic Port Louis skyline shot, which is beautiful, no doubt. But I actually prefer going just after sunrise on a weekday morning, around 7 or 8 AM.
