In a renewed push to strengthen infrastructure and improve living conditions across Yobe State, the Ministry of Works has approved the construction of a 3-kilometer township road and drainage network in Potiskum, aimed at tackling recurrent flooding and enhancing the town’s growing commercial activity.
The approval, according to a statement by the ministry’s information officer, Abubakar Umar Maikau, underscores the Buni administration’s commitment to grassroots development and modern urban renewal.
Speaking during the approval ceremony held at the Ministry’s Chamber Hall in Damaturu, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umaru Wakili, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bako Dejibe, said the initiative aligns with the state government’s broader strategy to deliver durable infrastructure that promotes safety, commerce, and environmental protection.
“Potiskum is one of Yobe’s fastest-growing towns and a vital economic hub,” Alhaji Dejibe stated on behalf of the Commissioner. “This road and drainage project will help control flooding, improve urban access, and support local businesses that drive the state’s economy.”
He further emphasized that the ministry ensured transparency and compliance with all regulatory procedures throughout the approval and procurement process.
The 3-kilometer township road and drainage will connect key streets within Potiskum, easing movement for residents, traders, and motorists—particularly during the rainy season when flooding often disrupts transportation and local commerce.
The Ministry of Works reaffirmed that the Potiskum project is part of a broader infrastructure expansion plan covering several local government areas, designed to strengthen connectivity, build resilience, and deliver tangible impact to communities across Yobe State.
