WHAT LOVE WAS

I never really understood what love meant
A lot of people say it's a very special and ecstatic feeling you get when you find someone you care deeply for and want to spend the rest of your life with
Till death do you apart
Till the world ends
But I've seen love firsthand
And love was not pleasant, love didn't make me feel ecstatic ,love didn't make feel like I should spend my remaining life with someone else
Love was violent and fierce ,love or what I thought to be love cursed at the world and me
I still remember the shouting ,screaming, cursing and fighting of love with its tongue ,limbs and all it's might and I would scramble around for cover to hide myself for I was just a little girl who watched love claw at the mind of its partner and inflict damage

Love soon began to feel like a comfortable paradise
And for a while it was like running barefoot in beach sand at sunset
Like drinking chocolate milk on a Sunday afternoon even when love told me not to
And I'd laugh without a care in the world
And then the end of my paradise arrived and love was bipolar with fangs and long nails
Hidden behind a mask of a smile ,laughter, happiness that I thought would last
Love's sweet words came with tight fists
That I knew all too well were about to be bloodied in the broken and hurtful feelings of love's partner
And one day I held on to those fist tightly
And love threw me across the room
Like the lightest of winds
And the breathe that escaped my mouth as I hit the ground

Love wasn't the LOVE they told me about
Love betrayed everything I thought it to be and was told
Most especially love betrayed the feelings its partner had ,to give.

A spoken word poetry on the other side of love .P.S: I turned one of my short stories into this spoken word poetry
