"What If?"

What if sorrow's dark wings never descended upon my door?
What if grief's heavy chains never bound my soul to the floor?
What if tears of anguish never fell like autumn's relentless rain?
Would my heart still be whole, or would it have remained in vain?

What if fate's cruel hand never snatched away loved ones dear?
Would their laughter still echo, their smiles still banish every fear?
What if memories of joy never faded like the morning dew?
Would my life be a canvas of vibrant hues, or a monochrome of blue?

What if the government's promise of justice was never a lie?
What if equality's flame burned bright, and freedom's wings never died?
What if the air was sweet with opportunity, and every voice was heard?
Would our world be a garden of hope, where every soul is nourished and stirred?

What if racism's toxic roots never infected our collective soul?
What if love's bridge connected every heart, making us whole?
What if every child could grow up without the weight of prejudice and pain?
Would our future be brighter, our love more profound, our humanity regained?

What if the shadows that shrouded my path never concealed the sun?
Would its warmth have illuminated every step, every decision, every done?
What if the storms that raged within never threatened to consume my shore?
Would I have found serenity, or would I still be searching for more?

What if the ghosts of yesterday never haunted my waking hours?
Would their whispers still linger, or would silence be my gentle shower?
What if the weight of regrets never pressed upon my chest?
Would my heart still be heavy, or would it be free to find its nest?

What if every dawn brought promise, every dusk brought peace?
Would my life be a symphony of joy, or a melancholy release?
What if every moment was a gift, every breath a treasure rare?
Would I have cherished each instant, or would I still be searching for something to share?

What if the echoes of what could have been slowly faded away?
Leaving only the whispers of what still can be, a gentle, haunting sway.
A reminder that even in the shadows, a different path remains.
A choice to forge a new tomorrow, where love and hope still reign.
