To Other Waters

I still remember when we would leave at Dawn with stainless round plates to dig deep into stones that hid you
To make our containers an overflow of You
Did we not say water is Life
Like the waters of Africa
Water birthed in black stones
The salty water that goes beyond quenching black thirst
I have not forgotten days
We would deep our legs in to feel what You felt
You would always tickle the soles Inviting us to come play
We now spent our days on the riverside making merry of its unseeming deepness
Throwing those who knew not the ways Of the black water
They would cry like they were eaten and The water would only help them find their feet
It would settle with calm when all were Filled
Letting the wind unveil its Novelty
Through the dry waves it would be gone Only to hide deep down in the little Stones where it calls home for rebirth
And through the rain it would surge Through its space to calling us all home
The water of Africa surging like a new Life
Quenching the thirst that burns our black Throat
Fueling the zeal that drives the African Mind
Washing skin clean of foreign dirt
Clothing skin with the grease that comes With the African man
Bidding Us go make Me known
To other Waters
