Those Days

My living testimony is as motionless as prey in the dark, I tried my best to keep quiet like that house-mouse besieged by its hunter,
Then this happens, I’m triggered by an urge to speak some sense into your mind through your beguiled eyes, the brewing banter,
That’s how my life was like when I was but a young boy, lost in my own hope, strange personal goals and some little laughter,

I often pursued fun- as an escape into happiness, by assuming my position in front of the telly; watching my favourite shows, I rested like it was a factor,
A Panasonic it was, not a modern brand that last not beyond a year anymore, I interacted with true hues, I was seeing life in myriad colours,

For in those days, I had a knack for drawing countless imaginary rings, our minds steadily aligned,
My friend and I knew where to be, what to do and just the right things to say, a bond we perfectly designed,

Up the stairs we ran, hiding as we sought our cheekiest elements, it went on up until late, whence mother called for us to regain,
Thus we gladly ate, unbothered by the source of that food, indeed in those days, freedom was- free in no way chained,

92’-95’ flew by so fast, 95’-05’ is where everything changed, we became more aware of ourselves, picky with new friends,
Those who could keep secrets were kept, our naughtier sides unleashed, for those whom knew us not, we did pretend.

Out and about our goblin-selves went to experiment on the things we saw, in those days cigars would be thrown undone,
Picking the stems left, we attempted to smoke like we’d see our folks do, we huffed and puffed, as we pointed; your turn,

How did we avoid petty infections that would have turned lethal? Was it a god perhaps watching over us?
I keep wondering if that life we lived will ever have a sequel? We both miss that feeling, off course minus,

Mom and dad scolding, the constant whipping that accompanied their sudden discoveries,
Another time, another day, I will fill you on how I developed anxiety, in another poem- versed stories.

The poem is about how two friends experienced their childhood so fast doing much yet little, playing more than working on anything specific.
