1st February, 2024

Dear Patrick,

First, Happy New Month my beloved man. I wish the both of us success in every of our endeavors this month and beyond. It’s been almost two months since we saw each other and every day, I miss you. Us. Together. I miss the breakfast date you take me to every morning, I miss late night dinners that mostly ends with a drive to the mall or a drive around town. I miss the cheesy notes you hide in my purse whenever you take me to work. These are memories I love and would cherish for the rest of my life.

I want to ask, how are you? And how are you holding up? I wouldn’t have to come here to Maldives if not for the demands of my work. How’s Deborah? Hope she’s doing great? And how is she holding up too? I wish I could have stayed longer with you both but life just have to happen.

I am really wishing I can see you right now because I miss you a lot. Today is the first day of February, a month of love. This is a month that I consider to be our special month. Remember how you followed me here to Maldives last year when Tomiwa broke my heart over a mere text message? You were the guy every girl could pray for and I am glad things turned out to be great for us.

Partick, I will call you once I am home from work, so that we can have all that long talk about our day and just to hear your voice.
I miss you so much and I am hoping to be home before Valentine’s Day because I have a surprise for you. Last year you did great with all the secret planning but this year, I have something I think you’d like. 😉

Have a beautiful day and I’ll see you in a call later in the evening.

Love, Ifeoluwa

***
It feels cheesy but she wanted to do it. To respond to the letter, her very sweet boyfriend sent to her the previous day. She was shocked and excited at the same time that he sent her a hand written letter all the way from Nigeria. When she asked herself why couldn’t just drop a text or call her, she had no answer for it but she loved the effort.

This is their relationship and he’s showing her how a real man treats his lady.

The ringing of her phone snapped her out of her reverie. She looked to her right on the table and saw her phone crying to be picked up like a baby wanting his mama’s attention.
She picked up her phone to look at the caller and it was from Dara.

Ife slide the screen to answer the call.
“Babe, how far?” she asked, there was a bit of background noise from her head but it stopped after a few seconds.

“I’m good. I am just responding to Patrick’s letter” Ife placed the phone in between her ear and shoulder then folded the paper, put it in the romantic red car she bought on her way to work and sealed it firmly. She didn’t forget to spray her perfume on it so that he has something fresh of her to keep and remember her for.

Dara laughed. “Don’t tell me you are also writing back to him?” there was playfulness in her voice.

Ife frowned when she stood to her feet to arrange her table before heading out to the post office for them to deliver her letter to him.

“Of course, nau” she answered and Dara burst out laughing. Ife stopped what she was doing and stood straight on her feet. “What’s funny?” she asked, a little irritated by her reaction to what she said “Eh?”

Dara slowed down on laughing then cleared her throat before speaking. “Sorry my dear, I’m just… I find it funny and a little bit cheesy” she answered.

“I know it’s cheesy but doesn’t love make you do stupid things?” Ife asked with a shrug then she continued what she was doing.

“Since you think it’s cheesy, yes, it’s very cheesy and you’re right, love does make you do stupid thing.”

“See, I’m not the only stupidly in love person in this conversation” Ife grinned. She looked over her slightly neat table and made a mental note to clean up when she delivered this to the post office and got something to eat.

“Abeg, abeg, no bring me inside your stupid love matter. Yes, I dey ion love but my brain still dey intact” Dara said lightly.

Ife scoffed and chuckled lightly. “I hear you, if I talk now, dem go talk say I no sabi keep quiet, mtcheew” she sucked air in between her teeth.

“Abegi jare. Ife, you’re on your way to the post office ba?”

Ife came out of her office and locked the door before making her way downstairs. She smiled at the receptionist on her way out of the door and walked to the parking lot to get into her rental car.

“Eh, what happened?”

“I just dey ask. How about your fine bobo?” Dara suddenly asked, playfulness dancing in her voice.

Ife hissed and entered her car, she connected her phone to the car’s speaker and increased the volume so she can answer her as she drives.

“You know you’re not a serious person ba?” she asked, a little frown on her face as she had to abruptly stop someone that carelessly crossed the road. The person insulted her and walked away and she watched the person with gritted teeth.

“Who be that?” Dara asked.

“One idiot who no fit cross road well” Ife answered and shook her head as she chuckled lightly.

“And he’s abusing you?” Dara laughed dramatically whilst clapping her hand. “If na Lagos”

“Na wetin cross my mind just now” Ife responded and hissed again.

“That guy no go believe himself at all. They way we go wash am, eh?” Dara kept talking about how she would give the give a taste of WWE but Nigerian abgero style.

“It’s okay abeg, they guy don go and I no want wahala. Let me just be going on my own as I dey do since I arrived here” Ife parked properly in front of the post office and switched off the engine.

“Na because say you no like vawulence, make that person no try that thing for my eye” Dara’s voice went low as she spoke.

“E don do, I have heard you madam. I have reached and want to head in, let me call you back”

“No oo, I just wanted to keep you company till you go deliver your love letter to huncle Loverboy”

“How did you know I was writing the letter at that time?”

“You told me and don’t forget to spray that lovely perfume on the letter. Huncle would be pleased with that”

“Thank you, madam Dara, send my regards to Dora, your baby and bobo. I’ll come and see you guys one day”

“Dara scoffed. “I don hear, I’ll talk to you girl and stay say, love you”

“Love you too, bye” the line got disconnected and she went out of her car to enter the post office.

As soon as she took a step away from her car, she heard a crash sound and when she turned around, a huge signboard had crushed her car.

Ife gasped. “Oluwa mi o”
