The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book lied to me for 300 pages and I thanked it.

Evelyn Hugo is a fictional Golden Age Hollywood icon who grants one final interview to an unknown journalist. She tells the story of her seven marriages, each one a strategic move in a career built on beauty, ambition, and the ruthless understanding that in Hollywood, love is a transaction and image is currency.

But the real story is not the husbands. It is the person Evelyn loved all along - the one the husbands were designed to hide.

Reid writes fame the way it actually works: not as glamour but as architecture. Every smile is a load-bearing wall. Every scandal is a demolition. And every marriage is a renovation designed to keep the structure standing one more decade.

Who should read this: anyone who has ever performed a version of themselves to survive. Anyone who understands that the truth is sometimes the most expensive thing you own.

Rating: 9/10. The ending is a gut punch disguised as a love letter.

ugh this book absolutely wrecked me. i went in thinking i was getting some glamorous old hollywood story and then bam. that ending actually made me put the book down and stare at the wall for like 10 minutes. the way she talks about performing yourself to survive hit way too close to home honestly
