The net rises from the turquoise,
a silver prayer dripping with dawn.
His back,
a curve against the breaking pink horizon.
The old argument between man and water,
each haul a conversation
older than any word.
The fish flash and scatter light,
heavy with the morning's covenant.
This is the bargain made before first breath.
The wooden boat waits,
patient as a root.
He pulls.
The sea gives.
Again.
