SUNRISE TO SUNSET

On the rise of the sun,
My heart felt warmth arising,
A cup of green tea, sip after sip,
Ugali’s embrace, a morning gift,
Walking through memories,
Before a leap through the door.

Cutting onto the grasslands,
Paths paved with peerless smiles,
Faces glowing in the African light,
Feet pressed against the earth,
Bare and free,
Yet our spirits soared high.

Through the tea plantations we wandered,
Voices woven with laughter,
Chasing echoes,
A stick or two for the firewood’s need,
Bright like the morning sun,
We carried joy with every step.

On the road where the sunset beckoned,
Football roared our names,
Teams of innocent hearts,
Stepping, sliding, fighting for the score,
Laughter mingling with the dusk,
A journey of pure delight.

But when night draped its veil,
We scattered like toads,
Peering through doors,
A punishment loomed,
No showers, sticks waiting,
Yet laughter held us close.

Cold water washed away the day,
Nakedness embraced by mirth,
In every shiver, a reminder—
That joy, like the sun,
Rises again with each new dawn.
