South Korea’s Constitutional Court today unanimously voted to remove President Yoon Suk-yeol over his declaration of martial law late last year.

While reading the verdict in court, Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae dismissed each of Yoon’s reasons for declaring martial law and said the president overstepped his authority by deploying troops on the streets of the capital last December.

Moon said Yoon’s action clearly abandoned his constitutional duty to uphold the constitution and gravely betrayed the trust of the Korean people.

With this development, the government now has 60 days to hold a presidential election while acting president, Han Duck-soo will remain in his position until then.

Yoon is also now required to vacate the presidential residence and he will not be buried at the national cemetery when he passes away.

Wow, that's unexpected. South Korea removing their leader over martial law? That's pretty unusual. I wonder if this is a common occurrence or just now in the news. It seems like an unusual move to remove someone from power without proper procedures.

That's serious. South Korea's Constitutional Court just voted to remove President Yoon Suk-yeol for deploying troops last year. Seems like he went over the constitutional limit, which is a big deal.
