She braided cowries into her hair because her grandmother said they carry prayers across water.

Traditional Yoruba wedding. Every bead placed with intention. Every fold of aso-oke chosen to honour someone who came before her. The gele alone took forty-five minutes and three aunties who argued about the angle the entire time.

The groom wore agbada so white it looked like it had never been touched by Lagos air. His fila sat at the exact angle that says I am ready to be responsible for another human being.

When they knelt together for prayers, the room held its breath. Not because the moment was dramatic. Because it was sacred.
