Yobe State Governor, H.E. Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and leaders at all levels, stressing that unity and peace are essential for national development.
The governor made the call during a crucial engagement with over 800 chief imams of Juma’at mosques across the state, convened to strengthen the role of religious leaders in fostering harmony and national stability.
Gov. Buni highlighted the urgent need for divine intervention in addressing the country’s challenges, noting that both internal and external threats require collective spiritual support.
“Our country needs prayers for peace, unity, and progress. We must support our leaders to move Nigeria forward,” he stated.
Reflecting on the painful memories of the Boko Haram insurgency, Gov. Buni warned against taking the current peace for granted.
He recalled the destruction, loss of lives, and displacement experienced during the crisis, emphasizing the need to preserve the relative stability achieved.
“We cannot afford to return to those difficult times. The peace we enjoy today must be protected at all costs,” he added.
The governor noted that Nigeria holds a strategic position as Africa’s most populous nation, with many countries looking up to it as a symbol of strength and stability.
Gov. Buni tasked the imams to continue preaching unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence while encouraging their followers to pray for the success of the nation and its leadership.
He reminded citizens that Nigeria remains their only homeland, making it a shared duty to safeguard its future.
The Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Babagana Malam Kyari, described the meeting as timely and impactful, noting the strong cooperation among religious leaders in the state.
He disclosed that the next phase of the engagement would involve pastors and Christian leaders, ensuring a unified approach across faiths.
The attending Imams pledged to take the message of peace and unity to their congregations, assuring continued prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, and sustained national progress.
