Robert Eggers took the oldest vampire story in cinema and made it feel like something that has never existed before. Every frame is a painting. Every shadow has intention.

Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok is genuinely terrifying. Not in the jumpscare way. In the way that makes you aware of the dark corners of the room you are sitting in.

Lily-Rose Depp surprised me. Her performance as Ellen Hutter is the emotional centre the film needs.

The production design should win every award that exists. Eggers recreated 1838 Germany with obsessive detail.

This is not for everyone. It is slow. It is atmospheric. But if you let it in, it does not leave.

Rating: 9/10. The best horror film of 2024.
