... Amid fears of a resurgence of insurgency in the region, the governor has assured that youth employment can help end the insurgency.

The executive governor of Yobe State, H.E. Hon. Mai Mala Buni FCIA, CON, COMN, who is hosting the Northeast Governor's Forum meeting today in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, has assured that youth employment will play a vital role in the fight against insurgency in the northeast region of Nigeria.

The meeting is currently underway at the Banquet Hall of the Yobe State Government House, and it is the 11th time that the governors of the northeastern states of Nigeria have come together to discuss and find solutions to the regional problems in the areas of security, economy, business development and strengthening cooperation.

"It is imperative that we provide jobs to our youth because providing jobs to the youth will help them avoid joining any form of terrorist organisation or engaging in terrorist activities anywhere in our region.

"Then as a leader, there is a responsibility to improve agriculture by providing modern agricultural machinery, tools and other agricultural inputs to boost the economy and benefit from the agricultural wealth we have in this region.

"Providing quality agricultural inputs will help provide food to the masses in this region and help us fight food shortages, ensure food security, and promote economic growth." Governor Buni said.

The governor also called for a study at the meeting to take measures to strengthen the economy through self-reliance, as dependence on the federal government has become a major challenge for governors at this time.

“I am confident that this meeting will review measures that will help unlock the economic potential of our region; this is necessary given the increasing challenges in reliance on federal government funds to meet our needs.” Gov. Buni added
