My childhood in Africa

I love my homeland Africa, I love all what it has moulded me into today. In simplicity, my childhood was a bittersweet experience.

NOSTALGIA

Met the dark skies filled with shiny pearls of stars
Before sunrise on our way to farm
We need to weed so as to eat
Along with my brothers we carried our hoes and cutlas
Walking barefoot, feeling the cold ground and piercing of thorns
Singing chants that gave us strength
Amazing how we grew,
Working on the farm from dawn till dusk
The sunset led us home with some firewood
Fiddling around, with slaps on our backs from Ma made us upright
Racing in the rains like tomorrow was ours
Pushing ourselves down the hills on those slippery leaves without any anxiety
Duels amidst us and we resolve to gaiety
Never knew the word "love" but displayed it's purest form
Eventhough our clothes were tattered
It was only our hearts that mattered
Celebrating festivities together; the dance, the food and the music,
That warmth that wrapped us all together
My fondest memeories of aiding fishermen to pull their cannons from sea to shore
With a tear-stained face and joy in my heart, I relive these nostalgic moments.

Poignant... The lines "duels amidst us and we resolve to gaiety" is so relatable
