I've spent some time at Jack's Camp, and I'd say the real magic isn't just the landscape or the vintage tents - it's the silence at night. The pans are so flat and open that when the wind dies down, you can hear your own heartbeat. I remember sitting outside my tent around midnight, and the stars were so bright they cast shadows. No artificial light for miles.
If you go, don't skip the guided walks with the San Bushmen trackers. Most people just do the game drives, but walking out onto the salt with them is a completely different experience. They'll show you how to read animal tracks in the dust, point out edible plants, and tell you stories about their families. It's humbling to realize how much knowledge we've lost.
Also, bring a good pair of binoculars and a notebook. The birdlife is incredible - I watched a flock of flamingos take off at sunset, and I'm not sure I'll ever see anything that beautiful again. And pack a lightweight scarf or bandana. The dust gets everywhere, especially during the dry season.
