If I could talk to that child,
I’d tell her she did her best.
She shouldn’t have had to be that strong,
but she was — and she made it through.

I’d tell her I’m sorry
for all the times she cried alone,
for the nights she had no one to hold her,
for the days she had to smile when it hurt.

I’d tell her it’s okay to rest now.
It’s okay to need help.
It’s okay to not be okay.

I’d tell her she doesn’t have to earn love
by being perfect or strong.
She deserves care,
just because she exists.

I’d hold her close and whisper,
“You’re safe now. I see you. I love you.”

And maybe,
for the first time,
she’d believe it.
