I have been through GBE many times, mostly for trips to visit family in Zambia and for connecting flights to Europe. One thing that I think gets overlooked is just how calm the airport feels compared to other regional hubs. I remember once I had a 6 hour layover there, and instead of feeling stressed, I actually got some work done at the cafe near the check-in counters. The WiFi is free and pretty reliable, which is not something you can say for many airports in southern Africa. I have had good luck with the duty free shop too. They have a decent selection of local crafts, like Botswana woven baskets and animal carvings, that make great last minute gifts. The prices are fair, not jacked up like in some places. Also, the staff at the check-in desks are usually friendly and efficient. I have never waited more than 15 minutes to drop bags, even during peak times. If you are connecting, just be aware that the transfer area is small, so you won't find lounges or big restaurants, but there are vending machines and enough seating. My tip: bring a book or download a podcast because the departures area can get quiet once the peak flights leave. Overall, it is a clean, easygoing airport that really reflects Botswana's vibe.

yesss this is so true. I flew through GBE last year on my way to Vic Falls and I was genuinely surprised at how chill everything was. The cafe near check-in is lowkey the best spot for getting stuff done. Only thing I’d add is if you’re there around lunchtime the little restaurant upstairs does a decent sadza and stew. Nothing fancy but hits the spot when you’ve been traveling all morning.
