I Came With a Poem
They came with guns and knives,
I came with a poem for mothers and wives.
They came with hatred, calling us out for war,
I came with a poem, yelling peace for sure.
They came with fanaticism, wearing robes of religion,
I came with a poem, pointing to God’s divine mission.
They came with all kinds of perverted doctrine,
I came with a poem that cried out the righteous routine.
They came with avarice and contagious greed,
I came with a poem that shares with those in need.
They came with stories rehearsed in misfortune,
I came with a poem that preaches fortune.
They came with wailing, mourning the dead,
I came with a poem alive, leading all ahead.
They came with sinister looks meant to daunt us,
I came with a poem, bold—saying you can’t taunt us.
They came with a cabal, mastering evil,
I came with a poem to uplift the people.
They came with chants designed to fuel division,
I came with a poem against every form of separation.
They came with principalities, rulers of darkness,
I came with a poem of spiritual faith to heal this madness.
They came with propaganda bent on destruction,
I came with a poem full of insight—
read between the lines, follow instruction.
