The week opened with Hon. Salisu Muktari hosting a high-powered delegation from the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board (YSPHCB) at the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat. The visit, held under the True Micro Plan Paid Advocacy initiative, focused on expanding routine immunization coverage, strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery, and deepening collaboration between the state and local government.
During the engagement, stakeholders emphasized the strategic importance of Potiskum due to its population size and demographic diversity. The advocacy drive also targeted traditional institutions, including district heads, Lawans, and Lambas, to enhance community ownership of immunization programs. Hon. Salisu Muktari reaffirmed his administration’s full support for primary healthcare initiatives, stressing that healthcare remains a cornerstone of sustainable development.
In another landmark highlight of the week, the Potiskum LGA Primary Health Care Board emerged as one of the best-performing PHC institutions in Yobe State, clinching first position among the 17 local government areas. The Board presented performance awards and cash prizes totaling ₦2.5 million, covering Q1, Q2, and Zone B Q4 assessments, supported by development partners such as UNICEF, Leadership, Impact, and other international health partners.
In recognition of his leadership and responsiveness to healthcare needs, Hon. Salisu Muktari also received a Letter of Commendation from the PHC Board. In his response, the chairman dedicated the awards to health workers across Potiskum and announced that the cash prize would be redirected to motivate and support frontline healthcare personnel.
The chairman’s commitment to good governance and public safety was further underscored as he received a Letter of Commendation from the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, awarded to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Potiskum “A” Division, CSP Ibrahim Hassan Baba, for professionalism and outstanding service. Hon. Salisu Muktari used the occasion to reaffirm the local government’s support for security agencies, emphasizing that peace and stability are essential for socio-economic development.
Capping the week, Hon. Salisu Muktari publicly commended the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, for entrenching human capital development as the backbone of governance in Yobe State. He highlighted landmark achievements, including the recruitment of over 10,000 civil servants, extensive capacity-building programs benefiting thousands of workers, and massive investments in teacher training and recruitment to strengthen the education sector.
According to the chairman, these deliberate and people-centered policies have restored institutional effectiveness, improved service delivery, and positioned Yobe State for long-term growth and resilience.
