The executive chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, paid an unscheduled visit to Buraima Primary and Junior Secondary School, Potiskum, called for consistency and adherence to the school plan during the construction.
The Executive Chairman said the visit is purposely following the complaints by students and the community over the construction in the student playground and the abandonment of old buildings that deserve renovation, reconstruction, and modernization to provide adequate learning space for students.
During the visit, the chairman called on the board responsible for the construction of buildings to ensure that they built it according to the plan without encroaching on or blocking the areas allocated for student sports and called for the work to be done efficiently.
"We must ensure the quality of the work and ensure that the project is in line with the school's blueprint to maintain its integrity and ensure that it will benefit the community for a long time.
"I am calling on the board responsible for this building to use this opportunity to renovate, reconstruct, and modernize our dilapidated classrooms instead of blocking or congesting the student playground.
"Instead of providing this new construction that could hinder the students' recreational opportunities, it would be more effective if the unused classrooms were renovated and converted into classrooms and modern upstairs," he said.
The chairman also called on the state government to review the school's blueprint to ensure that each building is in line with the blueprint to address the problems plaguing our schools at present.
"There is no point in leaving the classrooms that have been beneficial to our community to be demolished and not benefiting our people. You then come and build new ones in the student playground instead of renovating the old ones and converting them into modern ones with upstairs that will provide a short course and provide the community with a modern education system" he added.
