The Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has hosted a delegation from the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board (YSPHCB) as part of renewed efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and expand routine immunization under the True Micro Plan Paid Advocacy initiative.
The delegation, representing the Executive Secretary of the Board, was received at the Potiskum Local Government Secretariat, where discussions centered on enhancing collaboration with the local government, mobilizing traditional institutions, and closing existing immunization gaps in the area.
Introducing the visiting officials, the Director of Primary Healthcare, Potiskum LGA, Alhaji Tahir Mohammed, said the advocacy visit was designed to engage political leadership and community gatekeepers in order to reinforce healthcare interventions at the grassroots.
He described Potiskum as a key local government with a large and diverse population, noting that its effective participation is crucial to the success of immunization and disease-prevention programs across Yobe State.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Deputy Director, Immunization and Disease Control, YSPHCB, Mohammed Danjuma, commended Hon. Salisu Muktari for prioritizing healthcare development and praised the commitment of all 17 local government chairmen in the state, which he said has helped position Yobe State among the leading performers in primary healthcare delivery nationwide.
Danjuma added that the team’s engagement with traditional rulers, including district heads, Lawans, and Lambas, was aimed at securing wider community ownership of immunization programs in Potiskum due to its demographic significance.
Responding, Hon. Salisu Muktari expressed appreciation to the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board and healthcare workers for their dedication to public health, reaffirming his administration’s readiness to continue providing full support for primary healthcare initiatives.
He stressed that healthcare remains central to sustainable development and urged health workers to remain patient, resilient, and committed despite the challenges associated with service delivery.
The visit further strengthened collaboration between the Potiskum LGA's Council and the Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board, as both parties reiterated their commitment to improving healthcare outcomes and expanding immunisation coverage across the local government area.
