Damaturu, Yobe State – The reconstruction of the Gujba Road Roundabout in Damaturu is nearing completion, marking another milestone in Governor Mai Mala Buni’s urban renewal drive.
The roundabout, redesigned to showcase the world-famous Dufuna Canoe — the oldest canoe ever discovered, dating back over 8,000 years — is set to become a new symbol of pride for Yobe State.
Officials from the Ministry of Works and Energy confirmed that the project has reached its final stages, with finishing touches currently underway.
Once completed, the remodeled roundabout will not only ease traffic flow but also serve as a cultural landmark celebrating Yobe’s place in global history.
Residents, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a fusion of infrastructure and heritage.
Many noted that the canoe design would attract visitors, boost tourism, and beautify the state capital.
Governor Buni’s administration has consistently pursued projects that reflect both progress and tradition, and the Gujba Roundabout transformation is seen as another clear example of that vision.
As commissioning approaches, the roundabout is already gaining attention as one of Damaturu’s most iconic sites — a true meeting point of history and modernity.
