Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, FCIA, CON, COMN, is consolidating a governance model that puts young people at the center—an approach increasingly linked to improved stability and broader economic opportunity across the state.
“Let me reiterate that the youth, who are leaders of tomorrow, would continue to be part and parcel of our administration, and we will try our best to ensure that the dividends of democracy spread all over,” the Governor stated.
In practical terms, the administration has embedded youths within the machinery of government; young professionals have been appointed as commissioners, senior special assistants (SSAs), special assistants (SAs), technical assistants (TAs), and in other strategic roles—positions that give them real influence in policymaking and service delivery.
These appointments cut across all 17 local government areas, ensuring balanced representation and strengthening citizens’ trust in public institutions. By widening access to leadership, the government has reduced feelings of marginalization and created a sense of shared ownership in governance.
This inclusion has had a stabilizing effect. Engaging youths in meaningful public roles has helped curb restiveness, redirect energy toward productive activities, and reinforce community cohesion—key factors in sustaining the return of peace in many areas of Yobe State.
Alongside political inclusion, the administration has backed youth-led initiatives with support for skills development, enterprise, and community-based projects. This has translated into new livelihoods, job creation, and stronger local economies, enabling young people to contribute directly to growth and recovery.
Gov. Buni’s approach underscores a clear link between inclusion and stability: by giving youths a voice, responsibility, and opportunity, the state is building durable peace while laying the foundation for long-term, inclusive development.
